We identify whether a property sits beside permanent channels, seasonal floodplains or predominantly dry habitat; whether it is inside a national park or private concession; and which activities are actually possible. The Okavango spreads into the Kalahari without reaching the sea, creating channels, lagoons, reed beds, floodplains and islands. Moremi protects part of this system, while surrounding private concessions can offer different access and activity structures. Farther north, Chobe and the Linyanti waterways draw large concentrations of wildlife. To the south-east, Makgadikgadi and Nxai Pan replace water with salt pans, open horizons and highly seasonal stories. Botswana rewards contrast—but only when the transfers and nights remain proportionate.

01Wet camp, dry camp—or both?
A wet camp prioritises waterways and may offer mokoro or boating, while a dry or mixed camp generally places more emphasis on vehicle-based wildlife viewing. These labels are useful but simplified: annual flood levels and local channels change. We confirm the activities expected for your travel window rather than promising water purely from a brochure description.
02Moremi and private concessions
Moremi Game Reserve and surrounding private concessions can both deliver exceptional wildlife viewing. Private areas may permit activities such as night drives or off-road viewing where locally allowed; national-park rules differ. The better choice depends on habitat, guiding, camp location, season and budget—not on a blanket claim that one model is always superior.
03Why camp combinations matter
Pairing two camps only works when they add distinct habitats or activities. We avoid near-duplicate stays unless a specific wildlife reason justifies them. Three nights per camp is often a useful rhythm, though flight schedules, overall duration and specialist interests can change the balance.
04Light aircraft and luggage
Many safari camps are reached by scheduled light aircraft. Timings may be finalised close to travel and flights can make intermediate stops. Aircraft type and luggage limits vary by operator. We explain the practical requirements in the proposal and build gateway nights where international connections are too tight.
05When does the Delta flood?
The Okavango flood arrives from rainfall far to the north and its timing differs from Botswana’s local rains. Water distribution varies by year and by camp. Wildlife viewing can be rewarding across seasons, but the mix of boating, mokoro and land activities must be assessed for the exact area and dates.
06Chobe, pans and Victoria Falls
Chobe is a natural northern connection, particularly for travellers continuing to Victoria Falls. Makgadikgadi and Nxai Pan create a very different pan-and-desert chapter, with strongly seasonal highlights. We add these regions when they deepen the trip, rather than stretching a short safari across too many flights.

Before you set off.
How many nights are ideal for Botswana?
Six safari nights allow two complementary camps; eight to ten nights create room for the Delta plus Chobe, Linyanti, the pans or Victoria Falls. We recommend protecting at least three nights for important areas where the routing permits.
When is the best time to visit the Okavango Delta?
There is no single best month for every priority. Flood levels, local rainfall, heat, wildlife distribution, availability and price all change through the year. We match the area and camp to your dates rather than treating the Delta as one uniform destination.
Will I definitely have mokoro and boat safaris?
No. Water activities depend on the camp, channel access, water depth, seasonal conditions and operating decisions. Permanent-water areas offer greater consistency, but every proposal should state which activities are expected rather than guaranteed.
What is the difference between a private concession and a national park?
They operate under different access and activity rules. Private concessions may offer lower vehicle density and activities such as night drives or off-road viewing where permitted. National parks and reserves have their own rules and can offer outstanding wildlife. Location and habitat remain crucial.
Are Botswana safaris fly-in?
Many Delta camps are reached by scheduled light aircraft from Maun or Kasane. Some northern routes also use road or boat transfers. Flights can make stops and exact schedules are often confirmed closer to travel.
What luggage can I take on the light aircraft?
Limits and bag specifications vary by operator and aircraft, with soft-sided luggage commonly required. We provide the applicable allowance for the booked itinerary; excess-luggage arrangements may be possible when organised in advance.
Is Botswana suitable for children?
Yes, with careful camp selection. Minimum ages, family-room capacity, private-vehicle requirements and participation in mokoro, walking or boating activities vary. We check each property against the children’s ages before proposing it.
Can Botswana be combined with Victoria Falls?
Yes. Kasane connects naturally by road transfer with Victoria Falls or Livingstone, subject to border formalities. The most suitable side depends on flights, hotel preference, waterfall conditions and the wider route.
Is Botswana only for luxury travellers?
Botswana often prices at the higher end because of remote camps, flights and conservation models, but seasons, camp categories and route length create meaningful variation. We compare experience and total trip value rather than presenting every property as ultra-luxury.
Can wildlife sightings be guaranteed?
No. Wildlife is free-ranging and conditions change daily. Thoughtful habitat selection, enough nights and experienced guiding improve the quality of the safari, but no specific species or sighting can be promised.
