WHY SAFARI LAB

Knowledge built on long stays, not quick visits.

Nagzira is a forest Safari Lab has returned to repeatedly, with the patience its quieter tracks reward.

Speak to a safari specialist ↗
Experienced local guides in Nagzira
Local Nagzira guides with whom Safari Lab has worked in the field.

Our familiarity comes from years in the field here, including extended stays and long sequences of back-to-back drives. That experience is most useful in practical choices: which entrance matches the route, where to stay, which local guides understand the forest, and when to slow down rather than chase reports. Nagzira is part of the larger Navegaon–Nagzira Tiger Reserve, but the sanctuaries, tourism blocks and gates within that system are not one interchangeable safari product.

Years measured in field days

Repeated visits and stays of up to sixteen days at a time have given us a working familiarity with Nagzira’s routes, water bodies, seasonal changes and daily safari rhythm.

Guides we know personally

We work with experienced local guides whose tracking, birding and knowledge of individual routes add depth without turning the safari into a race for sightings.

The correct forest block

Nagzira, New Nagzira, Navegaon and the wider NNTR landscape must not be treated as one gate. We identify the actual tourism block and reporting point before choosing a stay.

A forest beyond tigers

Nagzira is especially rewarding for leopards, wild dogs, sloth bears, herbivores and birds. Its lake and compact tracks make small changes in the forest unusually readable.

Logistics that respect the morning

Accommodation, meals, permits and transfers are matched to the confirmed entrance so early safari time is not lost to avoidable road travel.

YOUR SAFARI, YOUR WAY

The gate comes before the room.

Chorkhamara and Pitezari are different approaches, and accommodation near one should not be assumed convenient for the other. Pitezari also has an FDCM eco-tourism complex within the forest-side safari setup. We confirm its current booking status, access and operating arrangements before recommending it. We compare the confirmed entrance, meal expectations, room facilities and transfers from Nagpur, Gondia or Sakoli before recommending where to stay.

DISCOVER THE DESTINATION

A forest of lakes, hills and close observation.

Read the destination guide

Nagzira is part of the wider Navegaon–Nagzira Tiger Reserve, a connected conservation landscape spanning several protected areas across Gondia and Bhandara. Within Nagzira, wooded hills, bamboo, mixed deciduous forest and water bodies create an intimate safari experience. Leopards, wild dogs, sloth bears, gaur, deer, tigers and diverse birdlife share a forest where a change in alarm call or the direction of chital on a track can become the day’s most memorable moment.

THE KNOWLEDGE BEHIND YOUR SAFARI

Understanding Nagzira within the wider NNTR.

The reserve name covers multiple protected areas and evolving tourism access. We keep the itinerary tied to the exact gate and forest block.

01Nagzira is part of a larger reserve

Navegaon–Nagzira Tiger Reserve includes Navegaon National Park, Navegaon Wildlife Sanctuary, Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary, New Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary and Koka Wildlife Sanctuary. A permit or lodge labelled only as “NNTR” does not tell you which forest experience or gate is involved.

02Chorkhamara and the eastern approach

Chorkhamara is a key Nagzira tourism approach with its own accommodation and road considerations. We confirm the specific gate or tourism block shown on the booking rather than assuming every Chorkhamara-labelled option is identical.

03Pitezari and the Sakoli side

Pitezari is approached from the Sakoli side and has separate safari and accommodation logistics. The FDCM eco-tourism complex associated with this approach may offer a distinctive stay, but inventory, facilities and access must be checked for the requested dates.

04New gates and changing administration

Nagzira tourism access keeps evolving, including newer or reopened buffer options such as Murdoli. Before we suggest one, we check that it is operating, where it actually takes you, how it is booked and whether the road connection makes sense for the trip.

05Guides, routes and patient tracking

Our advantage here is not a promise of a named animal. It is knowing guides who understand the forest and recognising how particular routes, water and seasonal cover affect the drive. The plan leaves room for patient tracking rather than constant gate-to-gate changes.

06Building the practical journey

We begin with dates, travellers, desired drives and accommodation level. Then we match current permits, gate, guide arrangements, meals and transfers. If an attractive stay is inconvenient for the confirmed safaris, we explain the trade-off and recommend a better base.

THE WILDLIFE EXPERIENCE

What makes Nagzira Tiger Reserve special

Nagzira Lake and its forest edge

Water, wooded slopes and changing light give Nagzira a quiet visual centre and concentrate a remarkable range of forest life.

Tigress T2 in Nagzira

Leopard country

Nagzira’s compact, broken terrain can be rewarding for leopard observation, though every encounter depends on natural movement and patience.

Nagzira lake inside Navegaon-Nagzira Tiger Reserve

Wild dogs and the wider cast

Dholes, sloth bears, gaur, deer, birds and tigers make this a richly layered forest rather than a single-species destination.

Nikita and Sanjay make an amazing team at Safari Lab. They are extremely polite, professional, and highly experienced. From recommending the perfect hotel to arranging an excellent guide, every suggestion they made was absolutely spot on. Mara Simba is a wonderful property, especially for Indian travelers, including those who prefer vegetarian or Jain food. The hospitality was exceptional, and the rooms were comfortable and well maintained. A special mention to our guide, Gabriel, who was knowledgeable, courteous, and just as enthusiastic as we were about spotting wildlife. His passion and expertise made the safari experience even more memorable. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and I would highly recommend Safari Lab to anyone planning a safari trip to Masai Mara.

They were incredibly supportive throughout our entire journey and went above and beyond to assist us. What impressed us the most was their availability even at 5 a.m., they answered our calls and helped us whenever we were stuck or needed guidance. Their team is reliable, responsive, and genuinely cares about their customers. They even sent us thoughtful goodies (their label caps), which we really appreciated. Overall, we are extremely happy with their services and would highly recommend Safari Lab to anyone looking for a trustworthy and dependable team.

I have availed their services on two separate occasions—first for four safari bookings in Tadoba and later again for four safari bookings in Gir. On both trips, the experience was seamless and exceptionally well-managed from start to finish. The team was highly professional, responsive, and meticulous in handling all aspects of the bookings.

QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Before you set off.

Why does Safari Lab know Nagzira particularly well?

We have returned to Nagzira for years, sometimes staying sixteen days at a time and completing long sequences of drives. That experience informs our choice of gates, accommodation, guides and realistic field plans.

Is Nagzira the same as Navegaon–Nagzira Tiger Reserve?

Nagzira is part of the larger Navegaon–Nagzira Tiger Reserve, which includes several protected areas. They are not one interchangeable tourism block, so the exact gate and forest area must be confirmed.

Which Nagzira gate should I use?

Chorkhamara and Pitezari are key approaches, but the right choice depends on permit availability, lodge location and your travel route. Newer or reopened access is considered only after its current status is verified.

Can I stay inside the forest?

The FDCM complex at Pitezari sits within the forest-side safari setup and can make for a very different stay from the usual outside-lodge experience. We confirm availability, facilities, access and current operating rules before including it.

Is Nagzira only for tiger sightings?

No. Nagzira is especially rewarding for leopards, wild dogs, sloth bears, gaur, deer, birds and its lake-and-forest landscape. Tigers are present, but no sighting is guaranteed.

How many nights should I spend?

Two nights provide a compact introduction. Three or four nights give a more natural rhythm and repeated time with the forest; keen photographers may prefer longer.

Which gateway is most practical?

Nagpur is the usual air gateway, while Gondia and Sakoli can be useful depending on the gate and rail plans. We calculate the transfer after confirming the accommodation side.

Can you arrange a guide you know?

We have established relationships with experienced Nagzira guides and can seek suitable arrangements, but final allocation remains subject to current rules, rosters and availability.

What does the quote include?

Your proposal specifies the accommodation, room category, meals, transfers, safari sessions, gate, permits, vehicle and guide arrangements, together with exclusions.

Are wildlife sightings guaranteed?

No. Nagzira is a wild landscape. We use local knowledge and sensible field time to improve the quality of the experience, never to promise a particular animal.
